Why People Don't Hire A Coach

Let me start out by saying that-

People willing to show up and work on themselves are HEROES.

Those who seek help when they need it and vulnerably open up about their challenges are COURAGEOUS.

When we heal ourselves we heal the world, then the wounds of the past become a source of STRENGTH.

If you are a person who wants to improve, regularly asks for feedback, seeks reputable guidance, feels what they are going through and responds- instead of going out there all reactive, you’re my type of friend.

I met a a guy like that today while having coffee, he’s a fellow coach and we had a 45 minute conversation unexpectedly. He shared with me a lot about his approach to coaching. We talked like and I asked him what he thought was the number one reason people don’t hire a coach. He said that he believes narcissistic tendencies are what keeps people from seeking personal development. He shared that from his experience, a majority of people feel they are either a victim or that they are somehow above working on themselves. I found this to be an interesting thought. Let me be clear, I don’t think everyone who doesn’t have a therapist or a coach is a narcissist. I feel that part of caring for others is working to understand them and your impact on them. This is in opposition to narcissism which is only focusing on yourself, you being here tells me you’re one of the ones who cares.

A lot of the personal development field can be centered around what they did to us, how we were wronged, and even that we are entitled to better. Someone who works with myself or a coach in my network will start to ask the deeper questions like- What was my part in this situation? Why did I allow myself to go on being wronged and come back for more? What did I gain from this? What can I learn from this situation to make better decisions in the future?

We will all be better off as more people realize that everyone comes to this planet as a magnificent being and a soul that is deserving of love and already loved. To be disconnected from this truth is why we experience chaos, as we reconnect with our pure nature and inner truth we become empowered and effective in helping others do the same.

Coaching can reconnect us with our truth, uncover how to expand love’s presence, and reach greater levels of fulfillment.

Here are the major reasons people don’t seek out coaching-

Reason 1: Cost- Hiring an excellent coach may seem expensive to some, but the investment pays off in the long run. A great coach will help you identify and overcome obstacles that are holding you back from what you’re capable of achieving. The improvements you make with an effective coach will have a positive impact on your career or personal life, leading to increased income and happiness. Personally, all of the coaches I’ve hired have paid off majorly! Each have given me more skills and improved my abilities tremendously.

Reason 2: Lack of Time- Working with a coach doesn't have to take up a significant amount of time. Our minds can sometimes lead us to believe that it will. Many coaches offer flexible scheduling options and can work around your busy schedule. Plus, the time you invest in coaching can lead to greater efficiency and productivity, which can ultimately save you time in the long run. I also find that if a client is worried about the time, having even just as a quick call can be very potent and will get to the root of what they need and give them the boost to improve any area of their life. It doesn’t have to be complicated, the approach to growth can be rapid and direct.

Reason 3: Fear of Judgement- Coaching is a safe space where you can share your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement. This is the number one thing I stress with new coaches I train, this is a SAFE SPACE, creating an environment that harbors honesty and trust is crucial in delivering results. My clients often share that they “have never told anyone this” or “I can’t believe I am telling you this” and I am like BRING IT ON- I am here for your truth, I am here to help you with anything you’re in. If you are hiring a coach make sure they are well trained to listen without bias and that they are committed to keeping things confidential.

Reason 4: Lack of Trust- When choosing a coach, it's important to do your research and select someone with a good reputation- this goes back to trust. Look for coaches who have a track record of success and positive reviews from past clients. You can also schedule a consultation call to get a sense of the coach's coaching style and personality to see if it's a good fit for you- I can’t recommend this enough!

Reason 5: Self-Doubt- It's common to feel unsure about whether coaching is right for you or if it will work. However, I will promise you this if you work with our coaches you will identify your strengths and work through your weaknesses. We will give you tools and resources to build the confidence to THRIVE! This is a PROMISE not a marketing ploy- we are here to help.

Even after addressing these top concerns or any others, not everyone in the world want’s to face their challenges. From my experience those who are content with where they are, are not the ideal client as well as those who think they have all the answers.

Advice for Coaches: Instead of pushing a narrative of why people “need” a coach, focus on the results you get your clients. This will attract the excellent ones who are enthusiastic throughout the process and ready to do the work to strengthen themselves.
