Discover Your Coaching Niche
You might be wondering to yourself what’s a niche or what’s my niche? Your niche is the area you want to focus on primarily as a coach. If you were an interior designer the niche would be the focal point that inspires all the other design elements. Using this analogy your niche is like a grand fireplace that is the focal point of the room, the objects adorning the mantle are like your coaching packages and the resources and tools you sell. The color palate, fabrics and textures are the way you present yourself online and in graphic design. The furniture and places to sit are how people will interact with you, online, in person, over the phone, etc. Your personality should be present in every bit of the space as you welcome people into your world. Those who resonate with you will want to be frequent guests and clients. To keep the door open, have an online presence that is always welcoming.
Your niche aka the focal point, is something you get to decide. This will be what area you want the core of your coaching to be. When we as life coaches don’t narrow down our niche and try to be everything to everyone we become diluted as a coach and aren’t as easily able to offer potent solutions and guidance. It’s like having your attention in too many places, we can become ineffective, appear scattered, and feel depleted because we end up doing things we aren’t good at or interested in.
To be an effective coach it’s important to know your strengths and areas of expertise. Often the clients we are able to help the most are ones who are going through something we may have overcome ourselves or who have similar passions and desires to our own.
Think about your own personal turn-around story.
Maybe you were able to adopt a healthy lifestyle and lost 60 lbs, this would make you empathetic to the needs of those struggling with their weight and inspirational because you already got incredible results.
Did you start a successful business in your home and built it up to the point that you lead a completely abundant life? Now maybe you have the desire to share what worked for you with others so they too can get these kinds of results for themselves.
Maybe you never had luck in relationships and you struggled for years until you studied up on the subject and learned to love yourself. Through the work of building your inner confidence and giving yourself what you need maybe you became more attractive to others and found your soulmate. Now you might want to share the do’s and don’ts to dating and relationships.
In each of these examples the success and results speak for themselves and position each potential life coach with a level of credibility that was earned.
Another great way to learn areas you may already be an expert in is to think about what people come to you for advice with.
If someone is always coming to you for career advice, you might want to think about becoming a career coach.
If people always asking you parenting advice because you’ve raised some wonderful kids, you might want to be a parenting coach?
If your peers are asking you about trading in the crypto market or stock market because you consistently get great results, then you may want to be a trading coach.
This method to uncovering your niche may seem simple but that’s just because it is. What you are passionate about learning, what you enjoy helping others with and where you have seen the best results are where you want to start coaching others.
So, what if I am an expert in an area I don’t want to coach in? That’s totally fine. Uncover the areas that do light you up and you feel pulled to instead of areas you might be pushing yourself toward. When we are pulled toward an area of coaching it feels natural, it feels right, and we will be more willing to do the work to be successful there.
When you uncover that area that interests you, learn as much about it as you can. Follow the experts and stalk their content, not in a creepy way but on social media, books and videos. Learn what they know, see how often they post, what kid of content they create, how they give to others, notice how they make you feel. Take note of all of this and then decide how you want to serve, what you want to give, and then bring your personality into what you are offering and doing.
Here are some of the top niches for coaches that also happen to be some of the most profitable. Notice if any stand out to you and jot them down to look back on after going through the list.
