Overcoming Anxiety 5 Minute Read
Overcoming anxiety naturally is a journey that requires patience, self-awareness, and consistent effort. If you are currently feeling anxiety I hope that one or two of these methods will help you. I struggled with anxiety for most of my life and it wasn't until I became a coach and learned more about trauma healing and coaching that I was able to get a handle on it. Be gentle with yourself in this process. You aren’t alone and everything you are experiencing is natural in our faced paced and challenging human experience. I hope this helps…
Here are some very practical strategies to help you manage anxiety:
Avoid Caffeine: Caffeine can exacerbate anxiety symptoms. Become aware of your caffiene consumption especially if you frequently experience anxiety.
Limit Alcohol: While alcohol might seem relaxing initially, it ultimately worsens anxiety by affecting neurotransmitter levels. When the alcohol wears off that’s when you may experience the peak levels of anxiety or just the depletion of serotonin.
Write It Out: When anxiety strikes, write down your feelings. Knowing what is making you feel anxious can sometimes relieve anxiety quickly. If this doesn’t help you can ask yourself, “What would bring me a bit more peace?” ask this over and over until you feel the peace wash over you.
Use Scent: Aromatherapy with calming scents like lavender or eucalyptus can soothe anxiety. I also love a good candle.
Talk to Someone: Share your feelings with a trusted friend, your coach or your therapist.
Practice Positive Affirmations: Replace negative thoughts with positive statements. We all need a reminder sometimes that we are strong, capable, safe, and worthy of love. So give this gift of your own soothing words.
Take a Walk: Physical activity helps reduce anxiety, you can also do this with a soothing walking meditation playing in your headphones.
Stay Hydrated: Dehydration can worsen anxiety symptoms, water is life. Life gets better as we nourish ourselves, the simple things really make a big impact.
Prioritize Alone Time: Sometimes solitude allows you to recharge and regain perspective. It’s good to enjoy your own company and if you aren’t sure yet that you do- then have some fun with yourself. Lighten the mood, dance around your room, paint something, allow yourself to dream up some thrilling dreams with this prompt “Wouldn’t it be fun if ___________.”
Disconnect from Technology: Turn off your phone or take breaks from screens, after finishing this article first of course.
Relax in a Jacuzzi or Bath: Warm baths can have very soothing effects on the nervous system and looking up at the stars from a spa in my opinion is even better!
Eat Regularly: Skipping meals can lead to blood sugar fluctuations, affecting mood and anxiety. Really try to make your meals enriched with nutrient dense foods and if you are doing a cheat meal don’t skip the greens try to take in some veggies at each meal.
Remember, progress takes time, and it’s okay to seek professional help if needed. You’re not alone in this journey, and with consistent effort, you can help to overcome anxiety naturally. I did it and you can do it too! Sending you all good energy!
