Fear List to Fearless
It takes courage to face our fears and each time we do we gain more strength. A strategy that can work wonders is to write out a - Fearless Fear List.
Brainstorm anything you’re afraid of or that causes you to worry or fret. Write out the fears as fast as you can in 10 minutes.
After that look at the list and rate your fear level:
S- subtile M- moderate L- large E- extreme
Notice what fears are subtle and could be squashed easily by facing them directly. Brainstorm some ways to crush these fears.
I have a friend terrified of spiders, I also wasn’t a fan and was pretty freaked out by them too. So I took him on a trip through a spider pavilion put on by the science center- which was basically a massive greenhouse with all kinds of spiders. They were creating webs, catching bugs, and crawling all around. We both faced our fears that day and felt pretty badass after.
For your Moderate, Large, and Extreme fears- investigate where they are coming from and then ask yourself- What is this costing me?
Write out your plan of some ways you can chip away at these fears bit by bit.
When we understand the stakes of not facing our fear of swimming with our T-shirt off, or settling for the job we can get instead of the career we would love, when we are too afraid to ask out the guy/girl we’ve had a crush for years, shrinking when we have things to say because we are afraid of what people will think, or running like Forrest Gump whenever we see a mouse we see the freedom that lives on the other side of the fears.
Zig Ziglar used to say, “F-E-A-R has two meanings- Forget Everything And Run or Face Everything And Rise. The choice is yours.”
You got this! Let me know a fear you are going to overcome in the comments.
