Increase Your Clarity and Focus
Top Ways to Increase Clarity and Focus
In today’s fast-paced world we have more options than ever as well as more distractions. Becoming conscious of how we are spending our time is of paramount importance. I sit with clients all the time who feel pulled in many directions but haven't clearly defined what they want for their life. It takes clarity to even uncover what we want, so this is the place to start. When I work with clients who are unsure, I recommend that they give themselves the space and time to uncover their priorities.
One of the best ways to increase mental clarity and focus is to get rid of distractions. This means turning off your phone, putting away any electronics, and making sure you're in a quiet environment. Once you've done this, it's good to take some deep breaths and clear your mind. Try to focus on one thing at a time, and if your mind starts to wander, redirect it back to the task at hand.
Here are some other ways to increase mental clarity and focus:
- Get enough sleep: Most people need around eight hours of sleep per night. If you're not getting enough sleep, it can be difficult to focus during the day. Sleep resets the body and the mind. A great way to get deeper and more restful sleep is by listening to something soothing before bed, white noise or nature sounds improve sleep quality, depth, and ability to fall back asleep.
- Eat healthy: Eating nutritious foods helps your body function at its best. This includes eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Eating nutrient dense foods increases neurogenesis in the hippocampus which can improve our learning, memory, mood, attention, and mental health.
- Exercise: Exercise increases blood flow to the brain, which can help you think more clearly. Studies have shown that exercise can increase focus and mental clarity for up to ten hours after a workout.
- Take breaks: If you're finding it difficult to focus, take a five-minute break to walk around or get some fresh air. This gives the brain a mini-reset so that it will function better when you return to a task. Taking good care of yourself goes a long way to clear the mind.
- Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment. This means paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment.
