The Best Plant Based Milk On The Market
In the world of alternative milks, there seems to be a new version popping up all the time and POP! I’m here to prove that same point! Today I am pleased to share another alt milk you may not be familiar with. This one is very special though because it’s the most sustainable milk we have EVER come across! Want to take a guess at what it could be?
Almond? No way- we said sustainable!
Soy? Em, no thank you.
Oat? Good guess. Oat still comes with a lot of supply chain issues.
Hemp? What are you high? Just playing, hemp milk won’t make you high but I still have to wonder why this is a thing… Macadamia? Quite tasty but still not the most sustainable.
Pistachio? I can hear my dad saying, “Do I look like I’m made of money?”
To enter into this drought tolerant world of wonders…
To unlock into this cave full of treasures that have been passed down from our ancient ancestors…
To get me to finally get to the point and reveal the incredible alt milk I am talking about.
I need you to say the magical childhood phrase- “Open Sesame!”
Did you figure it out?
IT’S SESAME MILK! And specifically, it's Hope and Sesame Milk!
I am going to give you a brief rundown of why this milk is so incredible and then encourage you to go out and try Hope and Sesame Milk.
A Miraculous Milk:
Sesame plants are native to Africa and India and are self-pollinating, easy to care for, drought-tolerant, and pest-resistant. That last bit ( pest-resistant) means that they don’t need herbicides or pesticides to thrive.
Planting Hope’s Hope and Sesame Milk is the first plant based milk to ever earn the Upcycled Certification from the Upcycled Food Association. This award is well deserved and was granted because after sesame seeds are pressed for oil, the remaining nutrient-dense pulp is typically discarded or used for animal feed. Hope and Sesame discovered a special way of developing that nutrition-dense pulp into a delicious beverage that is also very healthy.
Hope and Sesame Milk has also earned the following certifications:
Certified Plant-Based by the Plant Based Food Association
Non-GMO Verified by the Non-GMO Project
Gluten-Free Certified by the Gluten Free Certification Organization
Kosher Certified by the Orthodox Union
Sesame plants also require much less water to grow, just 12 liters necessary to produce 1 liter of tasty milk.
This is comparison to the approximately-
628 liters of water it takes to produce a liter of cows milk!!!!!!!!
371 liters for one liter of almond milk!!!!
28 liters of water for a liter oat and soy milk.
Let’s break it down even more, this means it takes-
52.33 times as much water to produce an ounce of cows milk vs sesame milk.
30.91 times as much water to produce an ounce of almond milk vs sesame milk.
2.33 times as much water to produce an ounce of oat or soy milk vs sesame milk.
The clear winner for the environment for all stated reasons is SESAME milk. The competition doesn’t even come close, especially when we factor in the use of pesticides and degradation of soil from other milks on the market.
Now let’s discuss taste and functionality:
Hope and Sesame has many flavors to choose from all coming with unique experiences and various levels of sweetness. For this article I will focus on the barista blend which has more natural sesame tones and a neutral l flavor you’ll recognize if you are familiar with sesame seeds, crackers, or tahini. This flavor doesn’t overpower your coffee though, it’s a subtle and pleasant experience with just a touch of sweetness. This milk is also creamy, disperses well into coffee and froths up with ease making it a great option for lattes.
Packed with protein fiber and more:
This milk comes with 8 grams of protein per serving which is 8 times as much as typical almond milk. It’s also an excellent source of fiber at 14% as well as a good source of vitamin D, calcium, iron, and potassium.
Now for the cost:
Sesame milk’s cost is comparable to other alt milks in this space and keeps our priceless planet healthier. It’s a milk you can feel good serving to your family for the many benefits. There’s really no downside. So pour it over cereal, stir it in with your oatmeal, use it in lattes, or smoothies to give them a rich dose of protein and enjoy the taste of this mighty seed.
